Holy Name Medical Center Receives the 2017 Women’s Choice Award®
Rated again as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery

Date: 01/06/2017

Holy Name Medical Center has received the 2017 Women's Choice Award® as one of America's Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery. This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the country's best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital.

"Women are the chief healthcare decision-makers in families today. We know the data show our standards and outcomes to be outstanding, but it's especially satisfying to see women themselves giving Holy Name top grades for quality and service," says Michael Maron, President & CEO, Holy Name Medical Center.

Holy Name has earned this award by meeting the highest standards of The American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBASAQIP). Awarded hospitals, like Holy Name Medical Center, also ranked above the national average for patient recommendations on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys, as indicated by the data reported by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) "Our outstanding outcomes in bariatric medicine go beyond our work in the OR," says Stefanie Vaimakis, Chief of Bariatric Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center. "As bariatric specialists, we are committed to thorough preparation and lifelong follow-up care for our patients, which maximizes the benefits of surgery and the patients' chances for success."

According to a study in April 2015 by the University of San Diego Health, 80% of patients who undergo bariatric surgery are female, despite equal rates of obesity among American men and women. The ASMBS shares that the most common bariatric surgery procedures are gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric band.

Holy Name is also the recipient of Women's Choice awards for stroke care and cancer care excellence. To learn about the benefits of weight-loss surgery and Bariatric Services at Holy Name Medical Center visit holyname.org/bariatricservices.
