School of Nursing

The Holy Name Medical Center School of Nursing traces its beginning to the foundation of the Medical Center itself in 1925 - when it opened with a class comprised of just 13 women. Exceptional nursing care was the trademark of the school during its inception and has continued throughout its strong 90 year history.

Registered Nurse Program

Please Note: The Holy Name Medical Center School of Nursing will be accepting applications for the Registered Nurse (RN) and Practical Nurse Program (LPN) to RN Program until April 15, 2016.

Today, with its affiliation with St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ, the School of Nursing - Registered Nurse Program has evolved into one of the leading coeducational and highly competitive nurse diploma programs in New Jersey. The program is also accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. An optional A.A.S. degree in health sciences is also available through a collaborative agreement.

Practical Nurse Program

Please Note: The Holy Name Medical Center School of Nursing will be accepting applications for the Practical Nurse Daytime Program until July 29, 2016 and the Practical Nurse Evening Program until April 8, 2016.

Since 1972, Holy Name Medical Center has also sponsored a School of Nursing - Practical Nurse Program, a 12-month practical nurse diploma program accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Our philosophy is simple, but enduring in its scope. We believe that the goal of education within the School of Nursing is to promote the growth of our students toward their full personal and professional potential. Additionally, we fully understand that professional nursing requires the utmost dedication to fostering the integrity and worth of all individuals who require health care.

A large percentage of our graduates hold positions throughout the healthcare industry - including Holy Name Medical Center itself - and continue to make significant contributions to the nursing practice.

Mission Statement

We believe...

that nursing is a unique, humanitarian practice-oriented discipline whose central purpose is assisting individuals and their loved ones with their health-related self-care requisites throughout the life cycle.

We believe...

that education is the organized learning process through which a person assimilates knowledge, develops skills, establishes values, and realizes potentials.
