Center for Physical Rehabilitation

Center for Physical Rehabilitation

The skilled and experienced staff of Holy Name Medical Center's Center for Physical Rehabilitation helps adult and pediatric patients recover from a disabling injury, illness, or surgery. Our licensed physical, occupational, and speech therapists work with patients, their physicians, and families to help patients restore function or learn new ways to walk, speak, swallow, and perform their daily activities.

The Center for Physical Rehabilitation has two locations for your convenience. The main location is a spacious, state-of-the-art facility on site at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck. Services are provided for inpatients at Holy Name and outpatients in the community. You do not have to have been a patient at Holy Name to undergo therapy or treatment at the center. Hours are by appointment and most services require a physician's referral. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The newest location is in the HNH Fitness® Center at 514 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. For more information, call 201-265-1076.
Physical therapy

Physical therapy helps to decrease pain and improve strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, and range of motion. The goal is to restore functioning and maximize recovery with individualized exercise programs, manual therapy, functional activities, therapeutic modalities, gait training, prenatal and post-partum exercises, sports physical therapy, and comprehensive home exercise programs.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy helps individuals maximize their independence with their daily living skills, work skills, and leisure activities in order to become self-sufficient following an injury or illness. Treatment programs include hand rehabilitation; upper extremity treatment to improve range of motion, coordination, and strength; visual/perceptual/cognitive skills (including computer-assisted programs); activities of daily living training; developmental therapy and sensory integration; fabrication of orthotic devices and splints; and accessibility and adaptations of the home environment.
Speech-language pathology

Speech-language pathology helps patients restore communication skills and swallowing ability. Speech pathologists evaluate and treat articulation, language, cognitive, swallowing, voice, and fluency disorders. Patients with the following may be helped with speech-language pathology: aphasia/apraxia/dysarthria, neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson's disease, ALS, head trauma), alaryngeal speech, problems relating from head and neck cancer, dysphagia, voice disorders, stuttering, articulation disorders, children's speech and language disorders, accent reduction, and cognitive disorders.
