About Me:
Raphael S. F. Longobardi, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and athletic injuries. He is Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center, having been a member of Holy Name's medical staff since 1996. He has been named a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly.

Dr. Longobardi graduated with a bachelor's of science in biology from Fordham University in 1986, before earning his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1990. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU Medical Center, as well as an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Since 1996, Dr. Longobardi has been in a private practice, with offices at NYU Medical Center and in Hackensack, NJ. He has authored various articles related to the shoulder, presenting his work both nationally and internationally. Dr. Longobardi has been active teaching at NYU School of Medicine, and is currently a faculty member of the NYU Langone Medical Center-Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery. He has been a Faculty Mentor to the students of NYU School of Medicine for their Professionalism course, as well as an active member of the Admissions Committee for NYU School of Medicine. As a result of years of dedicated service and commitment to medical education, in May of 2009, he was named, and remains, a member of NYU School of Medicine's Board of Governors. At his alma mater, Fordham University, he participates as a member of the Dean's Pre-Health Advisory Board and Science Council. He also participates as a Mentor and Advisor for Fordham University pre-medical students. Further, since 2008, he collaborates with Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, NJ, mentoring high school students with an interest in medicine.

Dr. Longobardi has had the privilege of caring for numerous collegiate and professional sports teams. His experience ranges from assistant team physician with the NY Islanders Hockey Team, University of Tennessee athletic teams, Minor League (AA) Baseball and Hockey Teams (ECHL), to Team Physician for the NY-NJ MetroStars (MLS) and Assistant Team Physician/Consultant with the Florida Marlins Baseball Team (MLB and the 2003 World Series Champions). Most recently, Dr. Longobardi served as Team Physician for the 2009 New Jersey-Northeast High School All-Star Classic Football Game. Also since 2009, he has served a Team Physician for Bergen Catholic High School's athletic programs. He remains a consultant for the University of Tennessee sports teams, as well as for NFL, MLB and MLS players.

Dr. Longobardi is active in numerous professional organizations, including as a Fellow of AAOS, AANA, ISAKOS, ACSM and AOSSM. From 2010-13, he served on the AOSSM Council of Delegates, as the delegate for the State of New Jersey. In 2004, he was elected the first President and Co-Founder of Metropolitan Surgery Center in Hackensack, NJ.

Dr. Longobardi is an active member of his community, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Church, participating in numerous charitable activities and events, such as preparing meals for the homeless, aiding displaced families without homes and assisting with Christmas toy drives for needy children. He organizes fundraisers for the Knights, as well as their monthly service of feeding the homeless at St. John's Soup Kitchen in Newark, NJ.
