Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine

Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine

When adults and seniors with emotional problems or mental illness need more than outpatient services can afford, The Holy Name Pavilion can provide intensive care and professional attention on an inpatient basis. Located on the Medical Center campus for more than 30 years, The Holy Name Pavilion promotes a healthy balance of mind and body with an emphasis on getting patients back to their normal routine as soon as possible.

Led by Sharad Wagle, M.D., F.A.P.A. (Chief of Psychiatry) and Robert Baker, RN, BS-BC. (Director of Psychiatric Services), The Pavilion's team of qualified mental health professionals provide stabilization and clinical services such as diagnostic assessments, medication management, individual and group therapies, psychoeducation, and skilled nursing care. Psychiatric disorders commonly treated on the Pavilion include: major depression, bipolar disorder, severe anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizoaffective disorder, dementia and schizophrenia.

Relative to other adult acute inpatient units, The Pavilion maintains a clean and well-appointed environment with a home-like atmosphere and an unique outdoor patio. In addition, with only 23 voluntary beds, The Pavilion boasts an exceptionally low patient-to-staff ratio which allows for more personalized and comprehensive care.

Holy Name Medical Center and The Pavilion are accredited by the Joint Commission, licensed by the New Jersey Department of Public Health and approved by Medicare, Medicaid, most major medical insurance companies, HMO's and preferred providers.

For more information about The Pavilion or to initiate an admission, please call 201-833-3094.
About our Services

When patients arrive on The Pavilion they receive several types of diagnostic assessments to gather background information, determine a diagnosis, and initiate treatment. This may include staff requesting existing medical records and contacting outpatient providers to coordinate care. In addition to psychiatric care, upon admission, each patient receives a thorough medical evaluation to identify and treat any medical conditions.

Once a proper psychiatric diagnosis has been ascertained, the attending psychiatrist will initiate medication management to reduce symptoms and facilitate stabilization. In addition to medication, patients are strongly encouraged to participate in our comprehensive group therapy program, which includes Psychotherapy Group, DBT-based Skills Groups, Psychoeducation Groups and Recreational Groups (e.g., exercise, arts & crafts, relaxation). Individual counseling is also offered on a daily basis. Overall, The Pavilion offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation, and psychoeducation for patients in need of both stabilization and effective coping strategies for daily living.

For more information about The Pavilion or to initiate an admission, please call 201-833-3094 or send an email to Pavilion@holyname.org.
For Professionals

Holy Name Medical Center is dedicated to providing premier inpatient psychiatric services and serving the needs of our local community and outpatient affiliates. Our Mental Health Initiative is to ensure that all acute psychiatric patients receive rapid access to quality inpatient services, and not experience extended wait times in the ER. Enhanced collaboration with mental health affiliates and local providers is one way to facilitate this initiative.

Beginning January 2008, Holy Name Medical Center will be hosting the first multidisciplinary networking and educational event for local primary care and mental health providers in and around Bergen County. These regularly scheduled events will include professional networking opportunities and free continuing education seminars on topics such as psychopharmacology and practice management. Our goal is for mental health and primary care providers to collaborate and share knowledge to ensure patients receive timely and comprehensive mental health services.

We are currently accepting medical staff applications from psychiatrists, psychiatric advanced nurse practitioners, and psychiatric physician assistants interested in treating patients on The Pavilion and performing psychiatric consultation on our medical floors.

In addition, we are seeking applications from local mental health professionals (e.g., psychologists, social workers, and professional counselors) interested in joining our outpatient referral network for discharge planning on The Pavilion and other types of outpatient referrals.

For more information or to request a medical staff application, please send an email to Pavilion@holyname.org.
