Student Nurse Summer Externship Program

(a paid opportunity)

An immersive, RN-guided learning opportunity for student nurses seeking clinical experience.

Holy Name's Student Nurse Externship Program is an exciting, initiative that supports the student nurse's transition to a professional nursing role.

The goal of our Student Nurse Externship Program is to close the gap between academia and professional practice by exposing our future nursing workforce to Holy Name's highly experienced community of caregivers in a mission-driven, innovative environment committed to compassionate care and excellence on all levels.

What can student nurse externs expect?

The program begins with Holy Name's unique, simulation-based orientation, which gives our student nurse externs (SNEs) the foundation for success before they begin their clinical experience. During this intensive preparation, students learn the basics of patient assessment, documentation, medication administration, wound care and other procedures within the student nurse scope of practice.

Students work alongside Holy Name RNs and partner with patients, families and other healthcare providers, as they contribute to the delivery of top quality care and a positive patient experience.

Every SNE is assigned to a specific unit to create a stable learning environment. This continuity allows students to better assimilate into the organization and cultivate professional relationships.

  • The externship is 11 weeks in duration, May 20 - August 3, 2024.
  • All externs gain experience with day and night 12-hour shifts.
  • Applicants can designate their first and second choices for work environment, which may include medical/surgical unit, critical care, labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum, and the emergency department.
  • Applications close on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 12 pm.
