Dr. Teja Karukonda is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. He treats a variety of spinal disorders involving the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He is experienced in performing minimally invasive spinal procedures as well as robotic spine surgery. He is well versed in the use of new enabling technologies such as robotics to improve the outcomes and increase the safety of spine surgery for his patients. Dr. Karukonda believes in using the least invasive treatments whenever possible to promote faster, easier recoveries.
Dr. Karukonda’s approach to care is patient-centered and evidence-based. He tailors each patient’s care to their individual circumstances, including their medical history, lifestyle, and personal goals. He finds fulfillment helping people return to the activities they love and says it is an honor being a part of their recovery.
Dr. Karukonda was born and raised in Connecticut and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He subsequently completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of California, San Diego. Throughout his career, he has written numerous book chapters and published extensive research on the treatment of spinal disorders.
Dr. Karukonda is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. He enjoys traveling around the world and spending time with his wife and two sons. He is an avid skier and a big foodie.
