George Miller, MD, is Division Chief of Surgical Oncology and the Medical Director of Oncologic Surgery at Holy Name Medical Center. Dr. Miller, certified by the American Board of Surgery, is one of the nation's leading surgeon-investigators, with a distinguished career as an accomplished physician-leader. He is a highly experienced surgical oncologist recognized for his expertise in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, especially those affecting the liver, pancreas, and upper GI tract. Dr. Miller is an innovative and incredibly talented surgical oncologist with a comprehensive understanding of effective treatment practices and precision techniques. He is an avid devotee of emerging technologies that can improve patient outcomes.
He completed his residency training in hepatobiliary surgery at NYU and a trio of fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in surgical oncology, hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery, and experimental immunology.
Dr. Miller has been recognized with several prestigious awards from organizations such as the Society of University Surgeons, the American Liver Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research, as well as the Ruth Leff Siegel Award given annually to scientists making the most important contribution to pancreatic cancer research.
His research has been published in leading journals including Nature, Nature Medicine, Cancer Discovery,and Cell. He has also developed an array of new cancer therapeutics that have entered clinical testing and has co-founded a successful start-up company focusing on the development of novel immune-based therapies. His work has led to more than 40 provisional patent applications. His seminal work includes contributions to the roles of the microbiome, innate immunity, and inflammatory cell death in oncogenesis. Dr. Miller is also a highly recognized lecturer and keynote speaker in the field of cancer research and oncologic surgery.
Dr. Miller is dedicated to providing his patients with the best possible care and guidance throughout their care journey. He is available to his patients outside of scheduled visits and believes the best outcomes happen when his patients have an in-depth understanding of their prognosis and together make decisions that facilitate positive and lasting change. Dr. Miller currently has a keen interest in examining the effects of aerobic exercise and longevity after cancer treatment.
