Gerald Portman, MD, earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and followed this with a residency in urology at Yale New Haven Hospital. He received advanced training in robotic oncology and minimally invasive surgery with a fellowship in urology at Hackensack University Medical Center. He then was named an assistant professor to the department of Urology at Yale University School of Medicine. He has earned board certification from the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Portman is a urologist who specializes in treating cancer of the bladder, kidney, prostate, adrenal, and testes. In addition, he treats patients for general urologic care and men's health issues. Dr. Portman is dedicated to helping patients with urologic conditions experience faster post-surgical recovery, shorter hospital stays, and minimal scarring from incisions. He has surgical expertise in advanced minimally invasive procedures, including robotic adrenalectomy, robotic pyeloplasty, robotic-assisted pyeloplasty, robotic-assisted prostatectomy, robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy, robotic cystectomy and minimally invasive approaches to kidney stone surgery.
Dr. Portman finds it meaningful when his patients feel less vulnerable once they have met with him. When communicating with his patients he describes his team-focused approach and ensures to each patient that they are his top priority.
