About Me:

Dr. Jonathan H. Lee, Medical Director of Holy Name Cancer Care, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist. He is a nationally known expert in the treatment of melanoma and complex skin cancers. Throughout his career, he has accomplished significant achievements in both melanoma research and multidisciplinary melanoma program development. Dr. Lee has published numerous original research articles in high-impact journals and has lectured internationally.

Dr. Lee received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency at University of Rochester Medical Center and a surgical oncology fellowship at John Wayne Cancer Institute. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Lee joined Holy Name in 2021 as the Medical Director for the cancer program, and is currently the region’s only fellowship-trained surgical oncologist whose clinical practice is focused solely on taking care of patients with melanoma and complex skin cancers.

For most cancer patients, the diagnosis is followed by a complex maze of staging, treatment, recovery, and survivorship, often with very little guidance, poorly connected itinerant care, and a lot of confusion. At many facilities, the current approach to cancer care places each patient in a predefined clinical category and applying widely accepted guidelines to make medical decisions appropriate for that defined clinical category. With this approach what often gets lost is the sobering reality that each cancer journey -- including the medical decision-making process -- should be unique to each individual and distinct in every circumstance. Dr. Lee understands and respects the uniqueness of each individual’s cancer journey and strives to serve as a faithful guide throughout that journey. His approach is to preserve each patients’ autonomy and personal values while together focusing on the best outcomes.

Dr. Lee believes that he has an obligation to his patients and their families to share all the available options and determine the best option for the individual, providing synergistic partnership in deciding a path forward.
