About Me:

Victoria C. Costales, MD, MPH, FACP is an internal medicine/preventive medicine (IM/PM) physician and the founding Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Holy Name. Dr. Costales’ career passion is training resident physicians to promote the health and well-being of those they serve, while also attending to their own well-being so they can enjoy and sustain long, meaningful, and fruitful careers. As a primary care physician, she seeks to empower patients and communities to take ownership of their own health by emphasizing prevention and healthy lifestyle habits.

Prior to joining Holy Name, Dr. Costales was Program Director of the combined IM/PM Residency Program at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut, one of four of its kind in the nation. While there, she also practiced lifestyle medicine and was the founding Director of the Center for Healthy Living, which offered community-based programs in lifestyle medicine and chronic disease prevention and management. She has also held leadership roles at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH) and at Griffin Hospital.

Dr. Costales relishes developing innovative curricula that teaches resident physicians to be well-rounded in their specialty and related disciplines. She was principal investigator of multi-year residency training grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration and the American Cancer Society. Through these grants, resident physicians developed skills in a variety of disciplines including public health/population health and lifestyle medicine. Dr. Costales has been an invited speaker at conferences for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Diabetes Association, and American Cancer Society.

Dr. Costales is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine and was previously an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Costales earned her medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Master of Public Health at the Yale School of Public Health. She graduated from the IM/PM Residency Program at Griffin Hospital and completed a fellowship in Public Health Practice at the NYCDOHMH.
