Overview
Proper test preparation is important to ensure accurate results. Your doctor will give you specific instructions about how to prepare, but you may use the information below for general guidance. If you have questions or concerns, please consult with your perinatologist.
- Amniocentesis: 3 (8 oz.) glasses of fluid (non-carbonated). Finish drinking one hour prior to ultrasound. Do not urinate (full bladder required). Light breakfast recommended.
- CVS: 3 (8 oz.) glasses of fluid (non-carbonated). Finish one hour prior to ultrasound. Do not urinate (full bladder required). Light breakfast recommended.
- 1st Trimester Ultrascreen: 3 (8 oz.) glasses of fluid (non-carbonated). Finish drinking one hour prior to ultrasound. Do not urinate (full bladder required). Light breakfast recommended.
- 1st Trimester Transvaginal Ultrasound (up to 12 weeks pregnant): No preparation required.
- Non-Stress Test or Biophysical Profile: No preparation required.
- Ultrasound
- Second Trimester Targeted Ultrasound: 3 (8 oz.) glasses fluid (non-carbonated). Finish drinking one hour prior to ultrasound. Do not urinate (full bladder required).
- After 28 weeks of pregnancy: No preparation required.
