Registered Nurse Diploma Program Overview

The Holy Name Medical Center Sister Claire Tynan School of Nursing's Registered Nurse (RN) program is one of the most respected diploma nursing education programs in New Jersey enabling students to seek employment as a RN after successful program completion and the passing of the state licensing examination (NCLEX-RN). Students complete the course of study in a two-year day-time program with limited evening clinical opportunities available. After successful program completion, graduates are prepared to work as practitioners in acute, intermediate, long-term and ambulatory healthcare facilities.

Through a collaborative agreement with Saint Peter's University, the School of Nursing offers students in the RN program the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree (Health Science) in addition to the Diploma in Nursing from Holy Name.

Nursing students are subject to criminal background checks and urine drug screening policies. A positive criminal background or urine drug screen renders an individual ineligible for School of Nursing enrollment.

Nursing students must comply with the Mandatory Student Requirements to Participate in Clinical Activities Policy outlined in the RN Student Handbook.

Admission is granted through an application process. Admission to the RN program is once a year for a Fall semester start.

Nursing lecture and skills lab/simulation classes are held on the Englewood Cliffs campus. Clinical and selected simulation experiences are conducted at Holy Name Medical Center. Selected clinical experiences are held at other area healthcare facilities.

The faculty facilitate student's achievement of these principles through mentoring, teaching, and guiding students to develop competency in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to provide safe and effective nursing care while they transition into the role of a professional nurse.

At the completion of the program, the graduate will:
