Surgical Care with Advanced Precision

Precision is essential any time you have surgery, especially during complex operations. Robotic surgery at Holy Name Medical Center offers you an extra level of accuracy.

Our skilled surgeons use the most advanced surgical systems. Our team is highly experienced in robotic procedures for many types of surgery, including bariatric procedures, hernia repair, upper GI surgery, and knee and spine surgeries.

At Holy Name, we make robotic surgery available to all patients who are deemed appropriate candidates for this type of surgery. We are committed to providing every patient with the most advanced, equitable, and inclusive care.

You can feel confident you’re in good hands with our surgical team.

Our Minimally Invasive Approach

Our surgeons use minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic techniques to treat your condition whenever possible, which promotes less pain, a faster recovery time, and fewer complications.

It can help to think of a robotic surgical system as another tool doctors use to perform minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures.

During robotic-assisted surgery, your doctor makes small incisions at the treatment site. Tiny surgical instruments attached to a robotic arm are inserted into the incisions.

Your doctor uses a robotic control panel to move the tiny surgery tools in a highly precise way.

Our general, gynecologic, thoracic, and urologic surgeons use the da Vinci Surgical System. Our orthopedic surgeons use the ROSA® robotic system from Zimmer Biomet for knee repairs and replacements. For spine procedures, we use the ExcelsiusGPS robotic platform from Globus Medical. You can read more about each of these technologies here.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery enhances minimally invasive procedures in several ways:

  • Surgeon autonomy. Your doctor has control of all the instruments, including the camera and grasping tools.
  • Better patient outcomes. Most patients experience less pain and fewer complications, go home sooner, and are less likely to be readmitted to the hospital.
  • Improved dexterity. The robotic arms give surgeons seven degrees of motion compared to the four degrees of motion that laparoscopic systems provide. This lets the doctor treat hard-to-reach areas.
  • Improved revision surgeries. Robot-assisted surgery lets doctors successfully treat recurring hernias or revise bariatric surgery. The technology lets surgeons move and see around scar tissue with a minimally invasive approach.
  • Improved visualization. Robotic-assisted systems use 3D cameras. Laparoscopic tools provide 2D views. A clearer picture of the treatment area helps improve outcomes.
