Overview

If you are employed/unemployed/retired looking to fill discretionary time, service to others, appreciation of hospital care to yourself or family, socialization needs, we offer a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer your time, skills and energy.

We offer a program with a minimum commitment of 75 hours of service per year. We have limited opportunities available Monday through Friday for a 4-hour shift either 8 AM - 12 PM or 12 PM - 4 PM. Our program will provide patient contact excluding shadowing a physician.

A sampling of areas includes:
  • Asian Health Services: Consisting of Korean Medical Program, Chinese Medical Program & Japanese Medical Program. Duties involve data entry, filing, assisting with mailing, translating with patients. Work during Health Fairs and Volunteer Fairs. Dashboards. Key performance indicator project. Coordination/collation of patient service activity within the department.
  • Breast Imaging Center (Females Only): Greet patients upon arrival, escort patients, assist with mailings, answer telephones, file, maintain refreshment area and supplies.
  • Cancer Center/MS Infusion: Greet patients as they arrive. Provide patient transports and escorts to treatment areas and throughout the hospital. Perform various clerical duties. Prepare and resupply patient treatment areas. Assist staff as needed (Nurses, Technicians, Dieticians, Social Workers).
  • Cart Exchange: Assist in answering phones to take orders from various units for supplies requests. complete orders.
  • Courtesy Desk: Handle miscellaneous errands, discharge patients in wheelchairs to main lobby, escort/transport patients and visitors throughout the hospital, assist with patient flower and gift shop deliveries, assists with one-time projects and mailings.
  • Gift Shop: Generate sales, deliveries. Answer phones, take flower orders, operate the cash register and process credit card payments.
  • MRI: Answer telephone. Assist with patient escorts, transport, etc. Scan documents and Distribute paperwork. Heavy patient contact.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Volunteer Cuddlers will have the opportunity to hold, swaddle, and comfort infants in the NICU, providing valuable support to parents and staff. Under the supervision of our medical team, volunteers will learn how to soothe babies, reducing their stress and promoting healing. Additional duties may include folding and stocking linens and supplies, organizing the NICU ante room, family waiting room, and donation areas. Manage the sanitization and organization of donations, and assisting nursing staff with administrative tasks.
  • Nurses Stations: Assist nurses in with transporting/discharging patients, delivery and pickup of supplies, provide patients with water and assist at meal time.
  • Operating Room: Assist in transport of patients to OR and from PACU. Clerical or other assigned duties in the OR workroom. Remain with the patient until brought into the OR. Remain at the patient’s side until nursing staff puts the patient back into bed.
  • Pastoral Care: Distribute communion to patients. Visit patients of their faith.
  • Pet Therapy: trained and certified volunteers visit designated nursing units with their certified pet therapy dogs.
  • Rehabilitation Services (Clerical): Answer phones. Filing active and discharged charts. Assist in pulling patient charts for the following day. Assist with faxing and copying charts. Assist any assigned administrative work by staff members.
  • Same Day Surgery: Discharge/transport patients and assist nurses.
  • Transport: Assist with transport and discharge of patients. Provide wheelchair assistance as necessary. Remain with patients until ground transportation arrives.
